INURA 2018: Footloose Warsaw. Towards a walkable urban theory

Coming June (23-30) we will host the 28th INURA conference. INURA (International Network for Urban Research and Action) a network of people involved in action and research in localities and cities. It consists of activists and researchers from community and environmental groups, universities, and local administrations, who wish to share experiences and to participate in common research. Examples of the issues that Network members are involved in include: major urban renewal projects, the urban periphery, community-led environmental schemes, urban traffic and transport, inner city labour markets, do-it-yourself culture, and social housing provision. In each case, the research is closely tied to, and is a product of, local action and initiative.

Each year, INURA members travel to a different city for an annual conference. The idea is to facilitate a meeting and intellectual exchange between local and international researchers and practitioners. So far INURA conferences have been hosted in cities so diverse as Mexico City, Toronto, Lisbon, Istanbul, Athens, Berlin or Havana. The conference takes the idea of urban research very seriously and quite literally - the conferee comprises general lectures as well as a series of open-air seminar - thematic excursions led by local researchers and activists.
