About us

The Centre for European Regional and Local Studies (EUROREG), based in the University of Warsaw (established in 1816, the University of Warsaw is Poland’s largest university and a leading research centre), is one of the country's leaders in interdisciplinary research in regional and local studies and policies. Together with the American Studies Center (OSA), Euroreg forms the Institute of the Americas and Europe (IAiE). EUROREG has conducted research in collaboration with 128 institutions from 33 countries, including European Commission, World Bank, OECD, UNDP, top-class universities, think tanks and practitioners. EUROREG's outstanding research achievements have been rewarded by the Regional Studies Association Award in 2012. The Centre offers a four-semester postgraduate (MA) programme, Urban and Regional Studies. EUROREG is also a national or international partner and coordinator for many seminars or conferences. The Centre is engaged in a substantial number of wide-ranging projects, analyses and expert studies. In 2007-2014 EUROREG was the Polish ESPON Contact Point, providing valuable and practical information about the ESPON 2013 Programme for various research institutions and stakeholders. EUROREG was active in the EU-financed research programmes: FP5, FP6, FP7 (it coordinated the GRINCOH project) and Horizon 2020.

The Centre offers four-semester postgraduate (MA) programme Designing regional and local development. The programme includes a range of interdisciplinary courses in: geography, economics, public governance, management, sociology, political studies, international relations and statistics. Special attention is paid to critical analysis of the implementation and effects of EU policies (territorial, cohesion and competition) as well as regional and global governance. At present, the EUROREG staff has 21 research personnel (specialising in economics, sociology, political science, law and administration) and 4 support personnel. [more about staff]

In 2020 was established the Science Studies Laboratory, an interdisciplinary research group, which work focuses on quantitative science of science, qualitative science studies, research policy and practice. [more about Science Studies Laboratory]
