We are searching for collaborators and researchers interested in developing the future of data management. We are putting together a team to build a network and apply for larger digital infrastructure grants.

In line with this, our team is looking to interview researchers in the area about their major concerns, problems, and potential solutions, focusing on building a team and network of people interested in this meta.data data management topic.

For whom: Collaborator (doctoral or post doctoral researcher)

Method of remuneration: civil law contract (contract for author’s work)

Expected work time: ≈ 0.5-2 days per week – terms to be decided

Remuneration amount: 1000 zł per month for 12 months, 2000 zł per month for 6 months – terms to be decided

Project: Interviewing relevant participants in the meta.data space to understand needs and desires NCN grant “Researchers' experiences and expectations regarding metadata

We are searching for collaborators and researchers interested in developing the future of data management. We are putting together a team to build a network and apply for larger digital infrastructure grants. In line with this, our team is looking to interview researchers in the area about their major concerns, problems, and potential solutions, focusing on building a team and network of people interested in this meta.data data management topic.

Task range

  • Help develop the meta.data() R package, especially by interviewing relevant participants in the meta.data space (e.g., standard makers, tool developers, users) as to needs and specifications.
  • Interview and record use cases, how it is done currently, and how they might like to do it. Also, feedback about the current meta.data() R package and how it might improve.
  • Analyze the interviews, collect ideas, (transcription will be handled), using e.g., R, maxQDA.
  • Present analyses to group, think about how to incorporate them into the package, develop further works.

Expectations towards candidates

Required:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Interest in metadata, data management, transparent analyses, 'plug and play' data sets.
  • Understanding statistical analysis in research, especially interviewing or text analysis.
  • Understanding of how to develop and conduct interviews with professional academics.
  • Knowledge of English – all other languages are a plus. 
  • Diligence, ability to think creatively and critically.

Welcome:

  • MA, Ph.D.;
  • interest in science, social science, science of science, psychology of science;
  • knowledge of Python and/or SQL languages;
  • knowledge of web structure and scraping;
  • programming, philosophy, big picture thinking.

List of required documents:

  • CV including: educational history, possible scientific achievements, experience in (research) projects, evidence of teamwork, indication of anything you think is relevant.
  • A cover letter explaining the desire, competences, and skills helpful in performing the research tasks.
  • Signed GDPR information on the processing of personal data (downloaded, printed, signed and scanned document).

Recruitment process

Recruitment takes place in two stages: 1) the competition committee (consisting of three people, including the grant manager as the chairperson of the committee) evaluates the applications based on the submitted documents; 2) then recruitment interviews take place with the candidates who best meet the criteria.

The maximum number of points awarded is 100, with 50 points being an assessment of the documents sent (achievements + proposal of involvement in the project included in the cover letter), and 50 points being an assessment of the knowledge and competences presented in the interview. Based on the assessment of achievements and the interview, a ranking list will be prepared.

The contract will be signed with the person who receives the highest overall score or with the next person on the ranking list if the competition winner decides not to sign the contract.

There is no appeal against the committee’s decision.

Deadline for announcing the results of the first stage of recruitment: May 15th, 2024.
