Academic Profile 

Graduated from the Faculty of Economics Maria Curie-Sklodowska University in Lublin (1984). He received his doctorate (1991) and  habilitation doctorate (2004) in the Earth sciences in geography – social-economic geography at the Institute of Geography and Spatial Organization of the Polish Academy of Science. In 2015 received his title of professor in the Earth sciences in geography. Has conducted research on: demographic processes, local and regional development, EU regional policy, functioning of local self-governments in Poland and European Union, trans-border cooperation. He has published (as author and editor) 12 books and over 140 articles and chapters. Member of the Committee for Space Economy and Regional Planning of the Polish Academy of Science. Expert of the National Science Centre and the Ministry for Regional Development. Member of the editorial board of a quarterly scientific journal “Regional Barometer”.
